Savannah Beach & Racquet Part 2

Well, I am a realtor on Tybee - so I have to share with you information on listings on Tybee - so lets start with Savannah Beach and Racquet. SBRC is located at 1217 Bay Street on the Savannah River. The development has 168 condos that are privately owned. All of the condos are one bedroom and one bathroom. The development is a gated community with private access to the Savannah River/Beach. Savannah Beach and Racquet has three tennis courts and two pools. I have attached photos of my friends Ed and Jeanette's condo located in the "A" building facing the ocean/river - great views and I have spent many a relaxing evening watching the dolphins play and the huge cargo ships navigating the Savannah River. If you are interested in renting Ed & Jeanette's condo contact Tybee Vacation Rentals http://www.tybeevacationrental.com/ or 912-786-5853. If you are interesting in purchasing one of the condos there are currently 13 condos on the market ranging in price from $160,000 to $ 275,000.

Savannah Beach & Racquet Club

Savannah Beach & Racquet Club is located on Tybee north end of the Island. SBRC will always hold a special place in my heart for two reasons. First it was my very first real estate sale on Tybee. I have been selling real estate since 1986 - but all of my sales prior to Savannah Beach and Racquet were in my hometown of Kent, Ohio. When we first moved to Tybee our family decided to open a small bakery/coffee shop on Tybrisa - we had the bakery for several years - but decided that it made more sense to stay in the field that we knew (real estate).

So, to make a long story short I decided to sell real estate full time on Tybee and surrounding areas. I began as most realtors begin and was at the real estate office getting familar with current listings. My dear friend Jeanette and her husband Ed were visiting from Texas and decided to keep me company in the office. They started looking at some of the listings and suggested that it would be "fun" for me to practice showing property on Tybee to them. So, off we go with lock box key in hand and we went exploring. After several days of looking at a variety of properties a new listing came on the market at Savannah Beach and Racquet - it was ocean/river front and Ed said let's take a look - and then they both said let's make an offer---- and to move to the end of the story - they bought the condo!!! So, not only did I make my first sale - but, my dearest of friends now own a condo on Tybee!!! They are so happy with their condo that they recently purchased a condo in Taso New Mexico - their plan is to spend 1/2 the year at Tybee and 1/2 the year Taos - sounds like a good plan to me.

I was recently forwarded this email and it just hit home - thought you might enjoy. Moving to Tybee Island was a way to slow down and enjoy life. I am blessed a great family - close to our oldest son and have made wonderful friends and have found a church that was truly an answer to prayers (Chapel by the Sea) - Hope you enjoy it as much as I did/do.

Happy Sunday!!!

GEORGE CARLIN (His wife recently died...and George followed her, dying July 2008)Isn't it amazing that George Carlin - comedian of the 70's and 80's - could write something so very eloquent...and so very appropriate.A Message by George Carlin:The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.If you don't send this to at least 8 people....Who cares?George Carlin

Spring has arrived on Tybee Island

Spring is here on Tybee Island.....
March 17th is the "official" beginning of spring for Tybee and Savannah. It is the Savannah St. Patty's day parade and the spring break for many Colleges and High Schools in the area. The island also comes alive with lots of beautiful flowers - so, I drove and walked around Tybee taking photos of some of the beautiful flowers... The pansy was blooming on my front porch - a winter flower for Tybee. this past weekend was the native plant sale and so many folks have been working in their gardens raking leaves (the live oaks drop their leaves in the spring) and planting new flowers. So, enjoy the photos.........

Some deals on Tybee Island

My morning routine is to check Savannah MLS first thing in the day. I review the current listings, price reductions, currently under contract and recently sold on Tybee Island. I thought I would share some deals that I see out in the market. Let me know if you would like some additional information on any of the properties. 912-441-0617 or sbentley@bellsouth.net

1406 Solomon - reduced today to 339,900. 2 bedrooms i bathroom upstairs and downstairs could be used as commercial or one bedroom one bath per listing agent. Current tax valuation per Chatham County is 617,000. It is currently bank owned.

22 Pulaski - 349,000 - It is also a 2 bedroom and one bath concrete block built in the Fort Screven in the 1930's. Only one house back from the oceanfront. House next door which has an ocean view (has been built up) is currently listed 1,290,000. So, great potential!

204 Polk - heading for auction block very soon!! Currently listed for 308,900. The previous owner purchased the house for 650,000 10/2006. Chatham County has the tax valuation at 524,000. It does have an somewhat unusual floor plan, but with some creativity could be easily solved. The auction is being held in Atlanta - so let me know if you want to see the house and I can register you for the auction.

So, today just FYI on the Tybee market. Let me know if folks are interested in recent sales on Tybee Island and I can put together a list for the next blog.........

Enjoy the day

Tiramisu Recipe

I have attached a photo of camera shy Fio and Mike at the Tybee Dog Park....
Once again as we hang out at the Bark Park on Tybee Island we decided to hold a 2nd party. The food was wonderful and the top of the favorite list was Fio's Tiramisu. Fio and her husband are currently staying at Flip Flop Cottage on Tybee one of Mermaid Cottages cute homes with their dog Peaches. Check out Mermaid Cottages http://www.mermaidcottages.com/. Diane Kaufman and her band of Merry Mermaids have a wonderful vacation rental company. So, check it out! Back to Fio and Mike... Their permanent home is North Dakota , but decided to spend some time on Tybee Island Fio shared was willing to share her wonderful recipe of her Tiramisu and Mike worked. Thanks Fio and Mike --- enjoy everyone

Fio's Tiramisu

Ingredients:
· 5 eggs, separated
· 8 tablespoons sugar
· 16 oz soft cream cheese or the same amount of Mascarpone cheese (very expensive in US)
· 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
· 2 packages of ladyfinger cookies - about 44 cookies (I used a brand called Alessi's; found them in Publix)
· 2 or 3 tablespoons of Brandy (or more...it depends on your taste)
· expresso coffee (2 cups)
· cocoa powder as needed to shake on top of finished product
· 1 pan (glass or foil)

1. separate the eggs
2. add 5 tablespoons of sugar to the yolks; beat with electric mixer until creamy
3. put cream cheese and heavy cream in a different bowl; beat until creamy
4. add the eggs + sugar mixture to the cream cheese mixture; mix well
5. add the Brandy to the cream
6. beat the egg whites until firm
7. add them gently (with a spatula) to the egg/cheese mixture
8. make the expresso coffee
9. add 3 tablespoons of sugar to the coffee and, maybe, some water if the expresso taste is too strong for you
10. pour some cream cheese mixture on your pan
11. dip the cookies (one at a time) in the coffee and lay them on the pan (ladyfingers absorb liquid quite quickly, so you need not take much time to do this
12. make a layer of cookies, then pour a thick layer of cream cheese mixture
13. make another layer of cookies and another layer of cream cheese mixture
14. finish sprinkling cocoa powder on top of the cream
15. refrigerate at least 5 hours before eating (it' s usually better the next day)

Very expensive recipe

We have all heard the urban myth of the Marshall Field's cookie recipe. And yes, the recipe is wonderul.. but that is a different story. I completed posting the recipe for the Granola yesterday afternoon and as I was typing the recipe the idea of small dish of yogurt and granola for an afternoon snack sounded very good. So, I waundered to the kitchen after the blog was posted and made myself a small dish of strawberry yogurt and some homemade granola. YUM. But, the second bite sounded funny and OUCH. I broke a crown and cracked the tooth beneath the crown and was quickly on the way to the dentist. I had to have the tooth removed and I am not a happy camper today. OUCH!!!!! So, enjoy the granola very carefully. I'm not sure that my batch will taste that good after yesterday afternoon. But, I did find a wonderful new dentist Marshpoint Dentistry - Natalie J. Wermuth, D.D.S. 107 Charlotte Road, Suite H, Savannah (Whitemarsh Island) near Publix 912-898-0090 - www.marshpointdentistry.com
tell her that Sue Bentley sent you and mention the granola recipe. It was the best experience that I have had with a dentist and a procedure that is typically not very pleasant to say the least. She is wonderful. THANKS Dr. Wermuth!!!!!

Thanks for the memories of the snow....

A dear friend and our "daughter"from Lithuania - Asta recently sent this photo of herself "enjoying" the snow. I printed the photo and have it sitting on my desk to remind myself WHY I MOVED TO TYBEE ISLAND!!!!!!! The snow is very pretty in a photo or in my memory, but I also remember the mornings of shoveling the snow, driving in the snow and just living in the cold and then I take a walk on Tybee's beautiful beach in January and it s 50 degrees here today and just beautiful. Thanks for the photo Asta - but, I will stick with Tybee Island. If you are ready to leave the snow behind and enjoy Tybee Island full time, give me a call and we can find you a home. Recent Price reduction on Tybee Island

I follow the new listings on Tybee Island daily as well as any recent price reductions. Just noticed today that a listing on north end of the island was recently reduced by $200,000. It is a very cute fixer-upper with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It was originally part of Fort Screven and was built (I was told) as a warehouse storage. Priced in the 200's it is great deal for someone wanting to get into the real estate market on Tybee Island. Give me a call and I would be happy to give you more information on the house.

Look forward to hearing from you

Happy New Year - 2009

Well, as I enter 2009, my New Year Resolution is to BLOG< BLOG< BLOG - so what better way than to actually Blog.

Photo of my dog Ace enjoying the afternoon at the Dog Park

We started the New Year off with a bang. We "Dog Lovers" hang out at the Tybee Dog Park between 3-4pm most afternoons and the human side of the dog park decided that all of the rescue dogs that we did not know their birthday would celebrate their birthdays on New Years Day. So the humans went home and baked home make doggie treats and human treats (peanut butter cookies) for the celebration. New Years Day arrived and it was cold with a brisk wind. But, it did not stop the dog lovers in all of us as well anyone on Tybee that would not show up at a party....come rain, winds.... So, about 20 dogs and their human ended up at the Tybee Dog Park @ 3:00pm on New Years Day. Lots of tail wagging and the treats were passed around including some sparkling cider for the humans. The dogs were all very polite and would sit to receive their treat and then ran off to chase one another. We all had a wonderful time. So, remember if you have a rescue dog how important it is to remember his/her New Years Birthday.
I am also including the recipe for Ace's Dog Cookies
Basic Yeast Dog Treats****
Mix together 3 1/2 cup unbleached flour, 2 cup whole wheat flour, 1 cup cornmeal 1/2 cup skim milk powder1 tablespoon (or 1 package) dry yeast3 1/2 cups lukewarm chicken or meat brothDissolve the yeast in the lukewarm chicken or meat broth. The richer this broth is, the better your dog will like the biscuits. Let yeast broth mixture set 10 min. Then stir in flour mixture. Roll resulting dough out 1/4" thick. Cut dog biscuit shapes from dough. Brush biscuits with egg wash. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 300* for 45 min. Then turn off oven and leave in overnight to finish hardening. Makes 60 medium-sized biscuits

http://www.maranathafarm.org/faq.php
Also, please support Marantha Farms in Ridgleand South Carolina - it is the wonderful farm that rescued Ace and where we found our wonderful little dog. Please visit their website
